About the Winery
EnRoute belongs to Far Niente Wine Estates, the Napa Valley family of wineries that includes Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel, Bella Union, Post & Beam and Dolce. Its Pinot Noir journey began in 2007, when a search for new regions and vineyards for Nickel & Nickel's single-vineyard wines led the team west to the Russian River Valley, and EnRoute was born.
Four sustainably farmed estate vineyards in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast are the core of the wines, farmed on organic principles, with a few like-minded growers adding fruit. The flagship, Les Pommiers, turns the usual approach around: the best blocks from each vineyard go into Les Pommiers rather than into single-vineyard bottlings, to capture the finesse of the grape and the region in one wine; it is meant to be the Far Niente of Pinot Noir, with a house style that carries through each vintage. EnRoute also makes vineyard-designate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay.
EnRoute has no tasting room or visitor program of its own; the wines are sold through the Far Niente online shop, the EnRoute Pinot Noir Club and stores and restaurants found with the wine locator, and club members receive complimentary tours and tastings at select Far Niente Wine Estates wineries in Napa Valley. Farmhouse Inn, a 25-room country inn among the vineyards and redwoods of Forestville, is about 15 minutes from Ektimo, and The Sebastopol Inn, in downtown Sebastopol, about 20. Since EnRoute does not host visitors, this day takes you to three small, acclaimed estates nearby that do. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

The first stop. April Xie and her father, Dominic, bought this Green Valley estate in 2012. The Classic Tasting is seated and fully guided, for up to 4 adults, by appointment; the fee is confirmed when we book.
11:30 · Singer Wine
About 30 minutes away. Stephen Singer, once wine director at Chez Panisse, grows only Syrah and Viognier, along with Tuscan olive trees, at his Baker Lane Estate in the Sebastopol hills. The Home & Estate Visit is a tableside tasting with light fare and the estate olive oil ($85, 60 to 90 minutes, 2-guest minimum). By appointment, arranged by email.

About 10 minutes away. A casual Sebastopol spot, open since 2016, with seasonal food from local farmers and fishermen, served mostly outdoors. Open daily from 11 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 25 minutes away. Colombian-born Bibiana González Rave, trained in Cognac and Bordeaux and named the San Francisco Chronicle's Winemaker of the Year in 2015, hosts only two groups a day at her small winery. The Hero's Journey tours the facility, then pours five wines at a seated tasting ($75, applied to any wine purchase), 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment only.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. All three are by appointment: Ektimo releases dates a month ahead and Cattleya hosts only two groups a day, so we book early.
About $160 per person for Singer ($85) and Cattleya ($75, applied to a purchase); Ektimo's fee is to be verified upon reservation. Each is paid directly to the winery.
