About the Winery

Bibiana González Rave grew up in Medellín, Colombia, a country with almost no vineyards, and was inspired to make wine by tastes from her father's glass. She earned a degree in viticulture and enology in Cognac and an enology degree with honors from the University of Bordeaux, worked at Domaine Stéphane Ogier and Domaine Clusel-Roch in Côte-Rôtie, did thesis research at Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion, and worked harvests in Burgundy, Alsace, Cognac and South Africa before settling in California as a viticulturist and winemaking consultant. By the end of 2011 she had started her own label, Cattleya.

The wines come from her favorite sites in Sonoma County, the Russian River Valley and the Santa Lucia Highlands, made as Appellation Blends and single-vineyard bottlings. The label carries an embossed Cattleya orchid, a flower that grows throughout Colombia. The San Francisco Chronicle named Bibiana its Winemaker of the Year in 2015, and Wine Enthusiast earlier picked her for its 40 Under 40 America's Tastemakers.

Cattleya calls its winery small and secluded, and visits are private and by appointment only, limited to two groups a day. The Hero's Journey starts with a private tour of the lab, cellar and barrel rooms, a behind-the-scenes look at how the wines are made, then moves to a seated tasting of five wines, both Appellation Blends and single-vineyard selections.

Tasting Fees

$75 per person for the Hero's Journey tour and seated tasting of five wines, applied to any wine purchased during the tasting.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

4:00 · Back to your hotel

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Belden Barns is a working farm on Sonoma Mountain that hosts by arrangement, and we book the 3 p.m. tasting at Davis Family.

About $75 per person in tasting fees for Cattleya, paid directly to the winery; the Belden Barns and Davis Family tasting fees are to be verified upon reservation.
