Caleb Leisure grew up in the East Bay, studied English at UC Berkeley and earned a master's in fiction writing at NYU, and he came to wine by way of a natural wine shop in Brooklyn. Visits to the Republic of Georgia in 2016 and 2018 shaped his winemaking, and he started his own label in 2017. He describes it as a one-person project, "aided greatly by the help of friends and family"; the label art is by his mother, the artist Joy Broom.
He farms about a third of the fruit he uses himself, following organic and permaculture principles, and buys the rest from organic and biodynamic California growers. Nothing is added or taken away at any point in the winemaking. He became known for fermenting in qvevri, the large, beeswax-lined clay vessels of Georgia, which he imported from a Georgian craftsman.
The winery is in Sebastopol, in the Green Valley, and Caleb hosts tastings himself, by appointment. It is a small, personal visit with the person who made every bottle, and a rare chance to taste wines that otherwise go mostly to the membership and a handful of distributors. Members can also pick up wine locally, in Sebastopol or Cloverdale.
$60 flat tasting fee, to cover the cost of open bottles, waived with the purchase of 6 bottles.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Good to Know
Book well ahead outside harvest. The membership offers 6-bottle and 12-bottle seasonal shipments, a two-case option and a flexible club, with local pickup in Sebastopol or Cloverdale.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from Farmhouse Inn in Forestville or The Sebastopol Inn.
Farmhouse Inn, a 25-room country inn among the vineyards and redwoods of Forestville, is about 15 minutes from Caleb Leisure Wines, and The Sebastopol Inn, in downtown Sebastopol, about 20. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A personal tasting with Caleb ($60, waived with a six-bottle purchase), about an hour.
About 25 minutes away. Max Reichwage's family winery on Pleasant Hill Road, where guests sit down to five wines in a new farmhouse tasting room with views over West Sonoma County. The seated tasting is $40, waived with a four-bottle purchase, and cheese and charcuterie boards are $30. Appointments from noon, the last at 4 p.m.; walk-ins when space permits.
About 10 minutes away. A casual Sebastopol spot, open since 2016, with seasonal food from local farmers and fishermen, served mostly outdoors. Open daily from 11 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. Stephen Singer, once wine director at Chez Panisse, grows only Syrah and Viognier, along with Tuscan olive trees, at his Baker Lane Estate in the Sebastopol hills. The Home & Estate Visit is a tableside tasting with light fare and the estate olive oil ($85, 60 to 90 minutes, 2-guest minimum). By appointment, arranged by email.
Back in Sebastopol by 4:20 p.m., or Forestville by 4:40 p.m.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. All three are by appointment, and Reichwage's first appointment is at noon, so we book the day around it. Caleb often can't host during harvest, late August to mid-October, so this day is best planned for the rest of the year.
About $185 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery, less any fees waived with purchases.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
