About the Winery

Ryan Waugh fell for wine in college over a bottle of 1976 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Lot 2 Cabernet from the year he was born; the empty bottle still hangs in a shadow box at home. He became cellar master at Chateau Potelle, bonded his garage as a winery in 2000 and bottled his first commercial wine, a 2001 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc called Susy's Cuvee, named for his mother.

Ryan and his wife Crystal met in 2004, when he was pouring for guests at the Villagio in Yountville. Together they have grown Waugh from 100 cases to about 4,000 under three labels, Waugh Cellars, Six Degrees and SINGLE, plus a sparkling wine named Crystal, with grapes from 17 vineyards across Napa and Sonoma. In 2007 they built The Caves at Soda Canyon, an underground custom crush winery.

Waugh has no public tasting room. Tasting appointments are requested through the winery's contact form or by phone, and the place and fee are confirmed with the appointment. The current list runs from Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to Russian River Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and Dry Creek Zinfandel, with some wines kept for the Friends of Waugh Cellars club.
