About the Winery

Greater Fool is the small label of Julian Christian and Kathryn Siegfried. Julian's path to Napa started with an August trip with his boss and wine mentor; he later earned his sommelier certification and worked harvests at Cakebread, Buccella and Hourglass. Kathryn worked at Barnett Vineyards, Rivers-Marie and Dakota Shy, and the couple settled in the valley to raise their children.

What sets the wines apart is co-fermentation: different grape varieties from different blocks are fermented together in a single tank, which the couple say gives the wines aromatic intensity and elegant structure. Their philosophy is that great wine begins in the vineyard and speaks best when the winemaker listens. A Greater Fool Napa Cabernet Sauvignon received 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck.

All the wine is made at The Caves at Soda Canyon, a shared winery built entirely underground, crush pad included, about 900 feet above the valley floor. The visit starts with a tour of the caves and winery, then a tasting of four wines and a barrel sample when one is ready. The outdoor terrace looks over the central and southern valley, on a clear day as far as the San Francisco skyline.

Tasting Fees

$50 per person for the cave tour and tasting of four wines plus a barrel sample, about 90 minutes; the fee is credited per 3-bottle purchase.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
