About the Winery
Rolando Herrera started in Napa Valley in 1982 as a dishwasher at Auberge du Soleil. Over the next 15 years he worked for names such as Warren Winiarski at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and Paul Hobbs, learning every side of farming and winemaking. In 1997, the year they married, he and Lorena, whose family has deep grape-growing roots in Napa and Sonoma, founded Mi Sueño, Spanish for my dream.
The first wine was a Los Carneros Chardonnay in 1997, followed by Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 2003 the family has farmed its eight estate vineyards itself through Herrera Vineyard Management, rare for a winery this size. The Herrera wines, single-vineyard bottlings named for family members, are made in lots of up to 100 cases and offered only through the Herrera allocation.
A visit starts with a guided tour of the working winery, where you see how the wines are made, and ends with a seated tasting in the barrel room. The Dream Flight pairs five wines with artisan chocolate truffles, and the Herrera Family Flight pours the family's most personal wines. On Fridays and Saturdays a barrel tasting has been added for a limited time.

$65 for the Winery Tour & Tasting with the Mi Sueño Dream Flight, five wines with chocolate truffles. $85 for the tour with the Herrera Family Flight. Durations are not published; we plan about 75 minutes.

About 15 minutes away. A French-style château on a Carneros hilltop and one of the best-known sparkling wine houses in the valley, with a terrace that looks out over the rolling vineyards. The Daily Tasting Experience, a flight of four sparkling wines, starts at $45 for about an hour. By appointment daily from 10 a.m.; everyone must be 21 or older.

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Oenotri on First Street in downtown Napa, an Italian restaurant serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 10 minutes away. A family Cabernet house pouring in The Tasting Barn on Atlas Peak Road near Silverado Resort, where dogs and families are welcome. The Portfolio Experience of top selections is $65, about 90 minutes. Reservations recommended; open weekdays noon to 4 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
