Launny and Weezie Steffens founded Vineyard 7 & 8 in 1999 on a 40-acre estate high on Spring Mountain. The name comes from Launny's interest in numerology: seven symbolizes perseverance, and eight represents balance and prosperity. The Steffens family still owns and runs the estate today, and the family's own animals share the property with the vines.
The vineyard sits on steep hillsides in the Spring Mountain District and was first planted in the early 1980s, and the estate focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The Steffens' son Wesley, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and spent nearly two years at The French Laundry before working at Harlan Estate and BOND, is the estate director and winemaker.
Visits are by appointment, Monday through Saturday, for small parties of 2 to 6. The Estate Tasting starts with a tour and the history of the property, then moves to a seated, in-depth tasting of current and library estate wines, including the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Block Six. Plan on a slow, winding drive up Spring Mountain Road to reach the estate.
$175 for the Estate Tasting, which includes a tour, the history of the property and a seated tasting of current and library estate wines. The fee is refunded with each three-bottle Cabernet purchase.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
