About the Winery

The Bourn family bought this St. Helena property in 1872 and called it Madrono. Their stone home still stands on the estate. The land stayed in the family until the late 1950s, then served as a Christian Brothers retreat center from 1961 to 1994. In 2006 Maurice Marciano, a co-founder of GUESS, bought it and began the estate's next chapter.

Marciano pulled out the old vines and, with the help of David Abreu, replanted only the best ten acres to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Architect Howard Backen designed the winery. The first great vintage was 2012. The estate, in the St. Helena AVA, also grows Italian and Spanish olives and mills its own organic olive oil.

Visits are private and by appointment, Sunday to Friday, and last 60 to 90 minutes. Guests choose a kosher or non-kosher tasting, and the staff shapes each visit around the group. Production is small, a few hundred cases of each wine, and guests can buy wine and olive oil during the visit, subject to availability.

Tasting Fees

$125 to $150 per person, depending on the tasting you design, for a 60 to 90 minute visit (kosher or non-kosher). One fee is waived for every three bottles purchased.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About $310 to $335 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Marciano Estate is closed on Saturdays and Round Pond is open Wednesday to Sunday, so this day works best on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday. On a Monday or Tuesday we swap the afternoon stop.
