About the Winery

Larry Turley, a former emergency room physician, co-founded Frog's Leap with John Williams in 1981 at Frog Farm, the St. Helena property he had bought in the 1970s. In 1993 he made the first vintage of Turley Wine Cellars, and the St. Helena estate became Turley's home. Food & Wine has called Turley 'one of the legends of California wine.'

Turley is devoted to old vines, especially Zinfandel and Petite Syrah from vineyards across California, many planted in the late 1800s; it has made wine from more than 50 sites. Farming is organic and often dry-farmed, with native yeast fermentations. In Napa the estate includes head-trained vines at Frog Farm in the St. Helena AVA and the Rattlesnake vineyard, planted in 1999.

The St. Helena winery is a private production facility and does not receive visitors. Turley's tasting room is in Templeton, near Paso Robles, at the historic Pesenti Winery it bought in 2000. To buy the wine, join the membership for member-exclusive releases or order from the limited selection in the online shop.
