Whitehall Lane was founded in 1979 by two brothers who focused on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1993 the Leonardini family bought the estate and brought in updated winemaking and more scientific vineyard management. Three generations of the family run it today. The winery sits on Highway 29 in the Rutherford AVA, between Rutherford and St. Helena, and notes that its vineyards have been farmed for more than 150 years.
The family now farms eight estate vineyards, more than 200 acres in all, from Rutherford and St. Helena to the Oak Knoll District, Sonoma Valley and the Petaluma Gap. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot lead, alongside Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Wine Spectator has honored Whitehall Lane three times for wines rated among the top five in the world.
Visits are relaxed. The Leo Trio is poured at the bar, while seated flights of limited-production and vineyard-designated Cabernets are served in the renovated Club Room or outside on the patio and in the Estate Garden Pavilion. There is also a private pickleball court among the vines, with views of the Mayacamas Mountains, where Sip, Serve, Smash pairs an hour of play with an hour of tasting.
$40 for the Leo Trio at the bar. $65 for the seated Winery Exclusive Flight with a small cheese accompaniment. $75 for Sip, Serve, Smash, two hours (an hour of pickleball, then a tasting). $90 for the seated Elevated Cabernet Sauvignon Flight, which includes a library wine. Tastings run 30 to 90 minutes depending on the experience. Groups of 7 to 20 book the Large Group Tour & Tasting at $60 plus a 15% service charge.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
