Bob and Anne Arns were inspired by the 1976 Judgment of Paris, when California wines beat French ones in a blind tasting. They bought their Napa Valley property in 1998 and planted 15 acres of Bordeaux varietals the following year. Winemaker Ken Bernards has made Tournesol since the first harvest in 2002.
The vineyard sits on a gently sloping bench about 300 feet above the valley floor in the Coombsville AVA, on soils of volcanic origin cooled by breezes from the bay. It is farmed organically and certified Fish Friendly Farming and Napa Green. The focus is estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends.
There are no estate visits. Current Tournesol wines are poured at Vintner's Collective, a tasting room for 18 small family wineries at 1245 Main Street in downtown Napa, in a historic building it calls Napa's most famous former brothel. For the seated tasting upstairs, we ask for Tournesol to be included; the tasting room confirms the selection.
At Vintner's Collective: $50 for The No. 1, five wines at the bar, about 45 minutes, no reservation needed. $100 for The No. 2, a seated reserve tasting upstairs, by appointment (cheese and charcuterie $25 extra). $250 for The No. 3, with sparkling wine, cheese, charcuterie and chocolates, by appointment.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
