About the Winery

Taub Family Vineyards is the Napa Valley project of a family that has worked in fine wine and spirits for four generations, with roots in pre-Prohibition distilling in New York City. Marc Taub is the proprietor, and the winery calls it a passion project, multiple generations in the making. Winemaker Maayan Koschitzsky makes a deliberately small collection.

The wines come as single-vineyard, block-designate and appellation bottlings. Napa Valley sources include Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III in Rutherford, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper and Morisoli-Borges, plus Cabernet labeled Rutherford, Mount Veeder and Napa Valley. Chardonnay comes from two Martinelli sites in Sonoma County. Marc Taub points to Napa's range of microclimates, soils and sites as the draw.

Taub is not open to the public, but it does host private tastings by appointment. Requests go through a Taub mailing list account, Monday to Saturday and at least two days ahead, and the place and fee are confirmed with the booking. We send the request with your dates and group size, then build the rest of the day around the time the winery offers.

Tasting Fees

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Archer Hotel Napa or Andaz Napa.

10:00 · Pickup at Archer Hotel Napa or Andaz Napa

Both hotels are in downtown Napa. Taub confirms the place of its private tasting when it accepts the appointment, so we set the first drive once we know it. The day runs a little past six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Taub Family Vineyards

A private tasting by appointment, with the time and place confirmed by the winery. The fee and length are not published; we allow about 75 minutes.

11:45 · Lewis Cellars

About 15 minutes away. Race car driver Randy Lewis's Cabernet house, now pouring at a lavish new estate on the Silverado Trail with pairings from a Michelin-starred chef. The Legacy Tasting is $80; we allow about an hour. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; reservations highly recommended.

1:05 · Lunch at Mustards Grill

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a Napa Valley favorite for more than 40 years, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:30 · The Vice

About 20 minutes away. A family label pouring single-vineyard, single-variety wines from 15 of Napa Valley's sub-regions side by side, in a private estate tasting in the hills east of the city of Napa. The Vice Estate Experience is $145, prepaid, for 2 to 6 guests; we allow about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday.

4:00 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:15 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.

About $225 per person in tasting fees for Lewis Cellars and The Vice, plus Taub's fee, which is confirmed when we book. Fees are paid directly to each winery.

Taub books Monday to Saturday and The Vice hosts Tuesday to Saturday, so plan this day for Tuesday to Saturday. The day runs a little past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
