Winemaker David Tate and Suzanne Tate founded TATE in 2011. David, from British Columbia, earned his enology degree at Brock University in 2002, spent five years as assistant winemaker at Ridge Vineyards and has made wine in the Barossa, Provence and New Zealand; he is also the winemaker at Barnett Vineyards. Suzanne, from Texas, came to wine through culinary school and fine wine sales.
TATE makes small lots from micro-vineyards, often an acre or two, on the Napa Valley floor and hillsides. Each wine is about one variety from one site, made in tiny quantities, and most of it goes to the mailing list and wine club. The focus is on what a single small site gives, rather than on a big blend, and the team picks partners carefully from across the valley.
There is no public tasting room. Visits are by appointment, arranged directly with Suzanne, and are hosted in Soda Canyon, east of Napa, at The Caves at Soda Canyon, where part of the wine is made. It is a personal visit with the people who make the wine, and we arrange it on your behalf.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
