About the Winery

Mario Solorio grew up in Michoacán, Mexico, and settled in Calistoga, where he started at Vincent Arroyo Winery in March 2000 suckering vines. He learned the cellar there, became assistant winemaker and manages around 65 acres of the winery's vineyards. He made his first wine of his own in 2013 and took out commercial permits for Solorio Family Wines in 2019.

Solorio is about as small as Napa Valley gets: a single barrel a year, about 24 cases, from 2020 to 2023, and three or four barrels a year since 2024. Mario buys from small vineyards in the Calistoga AVA, most within a mile of his home, and the lineup has included Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, a red blend and a port-style Gamay.

There is no tasting room. The Calistoga Wine Growers list Solorio as by appointment only at 2280 Greenwood Avenue, north of town, and we make the request on your behalf. Expect a small, personal visit with a working family label rather than a polished salon, and wines you are unlikely to find anywhere else. We plan about an hour here.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
