St. Helena · Napa Valley
A tiny hillside Cabernet estate in the eastern hills of St. Helena, named for a granite sculpture and home to a private art collection, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Ron and Anita Wornick founded Seven Stones in 1996 on a hillside in the eastern hills above St. Helena, off Meadowood Lane. Ron said he bought the vineyard as a retirement plan to stay out of mischief, and went ahead with winemaking once soil studies showed the site was right for Cabernet. The first vintage was 2005. After Ron's death in 2021, the estate was sold in late 2022, art collection included.
The name comes from a granite sculpture by Richard Deutsch, and the estate still describes itself as a place where land, wine, art and culture meet. About three acres of organically farmed Cabernet Sauvignon grow on volcanic hillside soils in the St. Helena AVA. Aaron Pott, who trained in Burgundy and worked at Château Troplong Mondot, makes the wine, a few hundred cases a year.
Visits are private and by appointment: an introduction to the estate, the art collection and the wines, arranged after a request through the winery's website. Fees and the length of the visit are not published. Expect a quiet, personal hour with the art as much a part of it as the Cabernet.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Seven Stones does not publish a fee for its private visits.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Meadowood is just down the lane, about 5 minutes away, and Alila Napa Valley, south of St. Helena, about 15. Appointments typically start at 10 a.m., so we leave at 9:45. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time is added by the hour.
A private visit with an introduction to the estate, the art collection and the wines. The estate does not publish a length of visit, so we allow about an hour and a quarter.
About 12 minutes away. A family winery founded in 1979 on the Silverado Trail north of St. Helena, with a hand-hewn stone winery; during your appointment your group is the only one on the property. Chateau Boswell does not publish a tasting fee; we confirm it when we book and allow about an hour. By appointment only.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Market, an American restaurant in a historic brick and stone building on Main Street in St. Helena, open for lunch Monday to Saturday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 25 minutes away. A family estate at the top of Spring Mountain that straddles the Napa and Sonoma county line, with a walk through the caves as part of every visit. The Reserve Experience adds a seated tasting of limited wines to the cave walk; $75 and about 90 minutes. By appointment, Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesday); up to 6 guests.
Back at your hotel by about 4:00 to 4:15 p.m.
About $75 per person in tasting fees for Pride Mountain, plus the Seven Stones and Chateau Boswell fees, which are confirmed when we book; each paid directly to the winery.
Market serves lunch Monday to Saturday and Pride Mountain is closed Tuesday, so this day suits Monday or Wednesday to Saturday. Seven Stones sets its time after the request, and we build the rest of the day around it.
