About the Winery

In 1999 a vintner cleared a block of boulder-strewn volcanic rock on Atlas Peak, about 1,475 feet up, and planted Stags Ridge Vineyard. Proprietor Don Dady bought it in 2018. The name comes from his college professor's advice: find seven compelling reasons that set an investment apart, or don't invest.

Stags Ridge sits above the fog line and faces the Pritchard Gap, which brings an afternoon breeze from San Francisco Bay. The vines grow in thin red volcanic clay, giving small berries and firm tannins. Down the hill, the Base Camp Vineyard, where the Silverado Trail meets Soda Canyon Road, holds the winery and hospitality building. The wines are four Cabernet Sauvignons.

Visits are at Base Camp, on the valley floor in the Napa Valley AVA, by reservation only: a tour and history of the property, then a seated tasting of the estate wines with paired cheeses, about 90 minutes. The winery says Base Camp visits are mainly for its allocation members, so we request the visit on your behalf.

Tasting Fees

Seven Apart does not publish a tasting fee. Any fee for the tour and seated tasting is confirmed when the reservation is made.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
