Sequum is the label of Dr. Paul Skinner, who holds degrees in viticulture and soil science and has built a career on how soil and climate shape grapes; he also founded the vineyard development firm Terra Spase. Sequum is a soil science term for a vertical sequence of soil layers. Skinner began making wine in 2003, inspired by Kidd Ranch, the vineyard around his home in St. Helena.
Kidd Ranch is a small vineyard of about 1.75 planted acres in the St. Helena AVA. Sequum makes Kidd Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the Four Soils Melange Cabernet and the MIXT red blend; Wine Enthusiast gave the 2012 Four Soils Cabernet 93 points. Recent vintages on local shelves include the 2021 Four Soils Melange and the 2022 Kidd Ranch Syrah.
Sequum sells through its website, a wine club with three samplers a year, and local shops such as Wine Country Connection in Yountville. It does not take appointments or offer tours, so Sequum does not receive visitors. With soil at the heart of the label, the day below ends at an estate named for its red and green soils.
Sequum does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
