Roy Piper Wines is the one-man label of owner and winemaker Roy Piper, who came to wine from a career in finance at AIG. His first commercial vintage was 2010, and he runs the business himself from St. Helena, keeping in touch with buyers through a video blog and by email and text.
Piper makes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, much of it from the Moulds Family Vineyard, in lots of a few hundred cases, bottled unfined and unfiltered. His 2024 Cabernet went to existing buyers in late July 2026 and to the waitlist a week later, and a 100-case 2023 Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet Franc was planned as an add-on.
The wine is sold by release to the mailing list, which tends to sell out within weeks, with a waitlist behind it. There is no tasting room and no visiting program, so Roy Piper does not receive visitors. The day below stays around St. Helena, at estates that do host.
Roy Piper Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 9:45 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Harvest Inn or Wydown Hotel.
Since Roy Piper does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, all around St. Helena. Pickup is at 9:45 so you reach Long Meadow Ranch for its 10 a.m. start. Harvest Inn, a garden hotel at the south end of town, and the Wydown Hotel on Main Street are each about 10 minutes away. The day fits in about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. An organically farmed family ranch in the Mayacamas foothills, on land first granted after the Civil War, with historic olive groves and a mountain winery. The private Mountain Estate Experience is $125, 90 minutes. By reservation, with set start times (usually 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.).
About 15 minutes away. A tiny hillside Cabernet estate in the eastern hills of St. Helena, named for a granite sculpture by Richard Deutsch and home to a private art collection; Aaron Pott makes the wine. Private visits by appointment, requested at least two days ahead; the fee is confirmed when we book, and we allow about an hour.
About 10 minutes away. Northern Italian cooking at Cook St. Helena on Main Street, a small local favorite open for lunch Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A young family winery with an 11-acre Rutherford estate of Cabernet Sauvignon, founded in 2020 by Mason and Kathryn Revelette. By private request, with no public tasting room; the place and fee are confirmed when we book. We allow about an hour.
Back by about 3:45 p.m., six hours after pickup.
About $125 per person for the Long Meadow Ranch Mountain Estate Experience, plus the Seven Stones and Revelette fees, confirmed when we book; paid directly to each winery.
Cook St. Helena serves lunch Monday to Friday; on weekends we suggest another spot in town. Seven Stones needs at least two days' notice and Revelette hosts by private request. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
