About the Winery

Dr. Robert Sinskey, a Los Angeles eye surgeon, founded Robert Sinskey Vineyards in 1986, and his son Rob and Rob's wife Maria built it into a well-known family winery. For years guests knew it for its tasting room on the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District. That property was sold, and the winery's time on the Silverado Trail has come to a close.

The wines come from the family's own vineyards in Carneros and the Stags Leap District, farmed organically and biodynamically. The winery is known for Carneros Pinot Noir, Alsace-style whites such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, and Stags Leap District Cabernet and Merlot. Today the home base is Wilding Farm in the Los Carneros AVA, with a 1906 barn, orchards, livestock and electric tractors.

The winery now goes by RSVnapa, and its visit page says plainly that Wilding Farm in Carneros and the Wilding Building in downtown Napa are not open for tastings at this time. The wines are sold on robertsinskey.com and through the club, and the Inside Track mailing list shares news of when tastings resume. The day below takes you to three Carneros estates that do host.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:10 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Carneros Resort and Spa or Archer Hotel Napa.

10:10 · Pickup at Carneros Resort and Spa or Archer Hotel Napa

Since Robert Sinskey does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, all in Carneros near Wilding Farm. Saintsbury books tastings on the hour and half hour, so we pick up at 10:10 for a 10:30 start. Carneros Resort and Spa is a few minutes from Saintsbury, and Archer Hotel Napa in downtown Napa about 10 minutes. The day runs about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:30 · Saintsbury

About 10 minutes away. A Carneros pioneer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, where the Garden Tasting is poured in English-style gardens with a winery and cellar walk when the weather allows. $65, about 75 minutes. By appointment, starting on the hour and half hour until 3:30 p.m.

12:00 · Hudson Ranch

About 10 minutes away. A working Carneros ranch that grows Tuscan olives, raises heritage breed livestock and farms fruit and vegetables alongside its vines, a good match for a day built around Sinskey's own farm. Private outdoor tastings by appointment or private request; the ranch confirms any fee when it accepts the visit. We plan about an hour.

1:20 · Lunch at Angèle

About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:45 · Domaine Carneros

About 12 minutes away. A French-style château on a Carneros hilltop, with a terrace that looks out over the rolling vineyards. The Daily Tasting Experience, a flight of four sparkling wines, starts at $45 for about an hour. By appointment daily from 10 a.m.; everyone must be 21 or older.

3:50 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:10 p.m., about six hours after pickup.

About $110 per person in published tasting fees for Saintsbury and Domaine Carneros, plus Hudson Ranch's fee, which the ranch confirms when it accepts the visit; paid directly to each winery.

Hudson Ranch hosts by appointment or private request, so we confirm that visit, and its fee, when we book. If the ranch cannot host on your day, we swap in another Carneros estate.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
