Napa · Napa Valley
Napa Valley's first Vietnamese-owned winery, with a garden patio, chocolate pairings and a hands-on blending lab, and a suggested six-hour day around it.

RD Winery calls itself Napa Valley's first Vietnamese-owned winery. Its tasting room opened in July 2020, in the middle of the pandemic and that year's fires, on a south Napa site that housed a Japanese sake producer in the 1980s and 1990s. The name means sunrise, or morning time, in Vietnamese, and the decor is an homage to the owners' roots.
Winemaker Timothy Milos takes a minimalist approach with grapes from California growers, across three lines: Fifth Moon for everyday wines, Hundred Knot for celebrations and Khoai for the top wines. The winery also makes the May Jade wine spritzers and runs a custom crush operation next door.
The lounge and garden patio feel relaxed rather than formal. Guests can taste a flight, pair wine with chocolate truffles inspired by Vietnamese flavors, try an Asian-inspired food pairing, tour the winery next door, or roll up their sleeves in the Wine Blending 101 class, where you make your own blend and design a custom label.
$30 to $80 for seated tasting flights in the lounge or on the patio. $55 for the Winery Tour and Tasting. $65 for the Wine and Chocolate Tasting or the Fifth Moon Food and Wine Pairing. $125 (white) or $150 (red) for Wine Blending 101.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

The Artisanal Tasting is $80; we allow about an hour. Open daily 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last seating at 4); reservations are encouraged.

About 15 minutes away. The Cheng family's Yountville tasting salon, built of poured concrete, hand-forged steel and glass, where Hestan cookware is also on display. The seated Cabernet Tasting is $60; we allow about an hour. Open daily; reservations recommended for seated tastings.
