About the Winery

Pilcrow belongs to winemakers and winegrowers Jonah and Sara Beer, who call it "a love letter to the Napa Valley circa 1955." The name is the paragraph mark, ¶, a symbol that has long marked the start of a new argument; theirs is that the quiet wines of old Napa still have a place today. The wines are organically grown, low in oak, lower in alcohol, dry and built to age.

Pilcrow makes four Cabernet Sauvignons from four AVAs: Glass Rock in Coombsville, Archer & Byrd on Mount Veeder, Granite Lake on Howell Mountain and Ghost Block in Yountville. Glass Rock is dry-farmed and biodynamic, grazed by cows, and the 2023 came in at just 12.3% alcohol. Critics have noticed: Decanter gave the 2023 Granite Lake 99 points and the 2023 Ghost Block 97.

There is no tasting room. When timing works, Jonah meets visitors himself, "sometimes gathered around a barrel, sometimes at a picnic table, sometimes at the 'Rumspringa' garage." It is about as personal as a Napa visit gets. We send him your open dates and party size, and he replies with what works.

Tasting Fees

Pilcrow does not publish a tasting fee. Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa.

10:00 · Pickup at Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa

Jonah confirms where to meet when he replies, so the first leg may change. Andaz Napa and Archer Hotel Napa are both in downtown Napa, close to the roads out to Carneros and Yountville. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Pilcrow

An informal tasting with Jonah at the place and time he confirms. Fees to be verified upon reservation; we allow about an hour.

11:30 · Faustini Wines

About 15 minutes away. A family label pouring at its Tasting Salon at POST inside Carneros Resort, with fireplaces and bocce courts on the grounds. Tastings of Faustini wines are $45 to $65, about 60 minutes. Booked online or by phone; we confirm the time when we book.

12:45 · Lunch at Angèle

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:05 · Hoopes Vineyard

About 15 minutes away. A family Oakville Cabernet house that hosts at Oasis by Hoopes, a regenerative farm and rescue animal sanctuary at the south end of Yountville; your host walks you past the gardens and animals. The seated tasting of five single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons is $95 for 90 minutes. By appointment, daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

3:35 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:55 p.m., six hours after pickup.

About $140 to $160 per person in published tasting fees (Faustini and Hoopes), paid directly to each winery; any Pilcrow fee is confirmed when Jonah replies.

Pilcrow visits depend on Jonah's schedule; if he can't meet that day, we swap in another seated tasting. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
