About the Winery

Spencer Hoopes established his Oakville vineyard in 1983 and for years sold the grapes to other wineries, until other vintners asking to use the Hoopes name convinced him to bottle the wine himself. His daughter Lindsay, who had worked in international law and at the San Francisco District Attorney's office, came home and took over the family business in 2012.

Lindsay brought in winemakers Anne Vawter and Jennifer Rue, who have made the wines together since 2014, and added newer vineyards to the Oakville fruit. The family farms with regenerative and biodiverse practices, and the wines are Napa Green certified. The house style is Cabernet Sauvignon that shows its vineyard, with single-vineyard bottlings alongside whites and rosé.

Visits happen at Oasis by Hoopes, a regenerative farm, garden and 501(c)(3) rescue farm animal sanctuary on Washington Street, in the Yountville AVA. Your host walks you around the property while you taste, and guests love meeting the animals. It is one of the few tastings where families are welcome, and there is a picnic experience under the trees.

Tasting Fees

$40 for a 45-minute flight of three wines. $65 for the signature walking tasting of five current releases, 90 minutes (waived with a wine club sign-up). $95 for a seated tasting of five single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, 90 minutes. $95 per adult for the two-hour picnic experience with a boxed lunch ($80 if you bring your own picnic; $35 or $20 per child).

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

10:15 · Hoopes Vineyard

The signature tasting, about 90 minutes ($65): five current releases while your host walks you through the gardens and past the rescue animals. The seated single-vineyard Cabernet tasting ($95) is also 90 minutes, so the rest of the day stays the same.

12:00 · Bella Union

1:15 · Lunch at Mustards Grill

3:45 · Back to your hotel

Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

About $180 to $235 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
