About the Winery

Andy Phipps, a third-generation Californian, caught the wine bug during a semester in France. After a sales career at Coca-Cola he took a cellar job at Beaulieu Vineyard, working through the cellar, lab and bottling line, and briefly on experimental lots under André Tchelistcheff during the Maestro's final year consulting there. He later worked in BV's hospitality center and on its national sales team.

Andy and Jennifer Phipps founded Phipps Family Cellars in 2004 to make small lots from coveted vineyards. It began with 330 cases of Zinfandel and now makes more than 3,000 cases a year across three labels: Phipps Family Cellars, the STATUS QUO red blend added in 2007 as an homage to Tchelistcheff, and the everyday-priced CALIFORNIA Wine Company, added in 2015. Wine Enthusiast gave the winery 94 points and a cover story.

Tastings are by appointment only and only for wine club members, with barrel room access at the winery in south Napa. Joining the Cellar Collection is free with a one-year commitment, paying only for the club wine when it ships, and brings complimentary tastings. Andy is the winemaker and the family lives in Napa, so a visit here is personal.

Tasting Fees

Tastings are complimentary for wine club members; Phipps does not offer public tastings.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
