The Finkelstein family started as garage winemakers in the early 1970s and founded Judd's Hill in 1989, with a 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon as the first release. The winery began when the family bought a 14-acre hillside vineyard in the eastern hills of Napa Valley; they later moved to their current home on the Silverado Trail, a mile north of downtown Napa, to welcome more guests.
Two generations of the family still own and run it, and they describe themselves as a family of artists, painters, poets and musicians who see wine as one more form of expression. They keep production to no more than about 3,000 cases a year, with familiar grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir next to Grenache and Viognier. Their MicroCrush program helps people make their own wine from as little as one barrel.
Visits are seated and mostly outdoors, on the terrace among the vines in the Oak Knoll District, Friday to Sunday. Guests who like something hands-on love the Bottle Blending Day Camp: a guide walks you through four barrel samples of Napa Valley reds, you settle on your own Bordeaux-style blend, then bottle and label it to take home the same day.
$45 to $65 for Terrace Tastings, by flight. $85 for Wine & Food in Balance, a 90-minute pairing seminar led by a wine educator (up to 6 guests). The Bottle Blending Day Camp is $425 for up to two guests (four bottles of your blend), $660 for up to four guests (four bottles), or $165 per person for five or six guests (one bottle each).
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
