Tom Eddy Winery

About the Winery

Tom Eddy earned his enology degree at UC Davis in 1974 and made wine for large and small California wineries before starting the Tom Eddy label as his family winery in 1991. His wife Kerry was the first female sommelier in Honolulu in 1980 and later worked for Wine Spectator. In 1999 they bought a ranch outside Calistoga, planted a small vineyard and built the winery and cave with the help of friends.

The 22-acre ranch sits about 1,000 feet above the valley floor and is the northernmost parcel in Napa County. The 900 acres around it are protected by the Sonoma Land Trust, which keeps the views of Mount St. Helena and the Palisades open. Production is about 5,000 cases, focused on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from hillside vineyards, held back until the family feels the wines are ready.

Every visit is private and led by an owner, usually Kerry. Guests drive up past Kerry's Vineyard, an acre of Cabernet, then tour the property, the winery and the cave, with its hand-carved wooden doors, Kerry's art in the niches and the signature "Big E" in the rock wall. The tasting of current releases comes with a small cheese and charcuterie board.

Tasting Fees

$100 for the Current Release Tasting, an owner-led tour of the property, winery and cave with cheese and charcuterie, 1.5 to 2 hours. $150 for the Barrel Tasting, which adds single-vineyard Napa Cabernet barrel samples in the cave, about 2 hours.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About $185 to $235 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
