About the Winery

Winemaker Robbie Meyer and sculptor Alan Peirson met at Peter Michael Winery, where Peirson was the first employee and longtime estate manager and Meyer rose from harvest intern to assistant winemaker over five vintages. Regular tastings at Peirson's house led to their own label, established in 2001 and first released as 300 cases of Russian River Chardonnay.

Peirson Meyer makes small lots of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon from carefully farmed vineyards on the Sonoma Coast and in Napa Valley, among them Ryan's Vineyard for Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Sophia's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley for Chardonnay. Meyer, who holds a master's degree in enology from UC Davis, also makes wine for other Napa wineries.

The wines are sold through the Peirson Meyer wine club and through distributors. There is no tasting room, so Peirson Meyer does not receive visitors. The day below starts at Lewis Cellars, where Meyer once worked as a winemaker, then adds a private estate tasting in the hills east of Napa and a winemaker-led tasting in south Napa.

10:00 · Pickup at Milliken Creek Inn or Westin Verasa Napa

Since Peirson Meyer does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Milliken Creek Inn, a small riverside inn on the Silverado Trail, is about 10 minutes from the first stop, and Westin Verasa Napa, a hotel near the Oxbow Public Market, about 15 minutes. The day runs about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Lewis Cellars

About 10 minutes away. Race car driver Randy Lewis's Cabernet house, now pouring at a lavish new estate on the Silverado Trail with pairings from a Michelin-starred chef. The Legacy Tasting is $80; we plan about an hour. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; reservations highly recommended.

11:35 · The Vice

2:40 · Elkhorn Peak Cellars

About 12 minutes away. A family micro-winery in south Napa where winemaker Elise Nerlove pours her own Pinot Noir from barrel to bottle. The Barrel to Bottle tasting is $40, credited with a two-bottle purchase; we allow about an hour. By appointment daily; the last appointment is at 3:30 p.m.

3:40 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

About $265 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

The Vice hosts Tuesday to Saturday, so plan this day for one of those days. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
