A family micro-winery in south Napa where the winemaker pours her own Pinot Noir from barrel to bottle, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Ken Nerlove bought a 28-acre parcel at 200 Polson Road in south Napa Valley in 1983 and planted Elkhorn Peak's estate vineyard, one of the early plantings in this cool corner of the valley. His daughter Elise Nerlove is now the general manager and winemaker, and father and daughter work the vineyard and cellar together.
This is a true micro-producer: fewer than 1,000 cases a year, mostly Pinot Noir with some Cabernet Sauvignon and sparkling wine, sold only through the website and wine club. The vineyard is farmed organically by hand, and the family helped pass Napa County's Micro-Winery Ordinance in 2022 through the nonprofit Save the Family Farms.
Tastings are held in the family's tasting room in the Crusher Wine District, a few minutes south of downtown Napa, rather than at the vineyard. The Barrel to Bottle tasting is hosted by Elise, with barrel samples and plenty of time for questions, which guests who like to talk winemaking appreciate. In summer and fall the family also hosts a few small vineyard experiences at the estate.
$40 for Barrel to Bottle, an interactive tasting with winemaker Elise Nerlove, with barrel samples (credited with a two-bottle purchase or club membership). $200 for the VIP Wine Blending seminar, a hands-on session that includes bottling and labeling your blend ($100 deposit, two weeks' notice). Estate vineyard experiences in summer and fall are priced by the winery.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Tastings are in the Crusher Wine District tasting room, not at the vineyard. Estate vineyard experiences run in summer and fall only, for a few guests, with pricing set by the winery. The VIP Wine Blending seminar needs two weeks' notice and a deposit. Ages and pet policy are not published, so we confirm them when booking.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as The Meritage Resort or Stanly Ranch.
Both hotels are close to the Crusher Wine District in south Napa. The Meritage Resort is about 4 minutes from the tasting room, and Stanly Ranch, an Auberge resort among the Carneros vines, is about 10 minutes away. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
Barrel to Bottle with winemaker Elise Nerlove ($40). The winery does not publish a duration, so we allow about an hour.
About 15 minutes away. A Carneros winery set into a hilltop, with modern architecture that won a 2018 design award from the American Institute of Architects and wide views over the vineyards. The Artisanal Tasting is $80; we allow about an hour. Open daily 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last seating at 4); reservations are encouraged.
About 18 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A mid-century modern winery on Howard Lane by Highway 29, making lighter, terroir-driven Napa Valley wines in a design-forward tasting room. A&D Wines, four wines, is $70 for 60 to 75 minutes. By reservation; open daily from 11 a.m., last reservation at 5 p.m.
Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.
About $190 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.
