About the Winery

Jesus Ortega was born and raised in Napa Valley. His father, Jesus Sr., settled in the valley in 1964 and spent nearly five decades working for Yount Mill Vineyards. A self-taught winemaker, Jesus made his first wine in 2014 for a label he started with partners, and Ortega Family Wines followed with the 2018 vintage, made to honor his father's legacy. He also manages and consults for small vineyards around the valley.

The wines are small lots, mostly single varieties, from vineyards Jesus farms or advises. The flagship is a Carneros Pinot Blanc, a rare grape in Napa Valley, from a block off Ramel Road at the southern edge of the appellation. Reds include an Atlas Peak Zinfandel from Dern Vineyard, next to Stagecoach, an Atlas Peak Cabernet, an Oakville Cabernet from Rock Cairn Vineyard and an Oak Knoll Malbec.

Ortega makes its wine in a shared production and hospitality space in the Crusher District, a few minutes south of the city of Napa. There is no public tasting room: tastings are private and by request, and Jesus hosts each visit himself, for an unscripted look at a small producer. We send the request and confirm the time and fee on your behalf.
