Oakville · Napa Valley
A 370-acre mountain ranch 1,000 feet above Oakville, where the visit is an ATV ride through the vineyards to a valley overlook and a tasting by the pool, and a suggested six-hour day around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Mary Miner and her late husband Bob bought this rugged 370-acre ranch in 1989. The winery calls it the original mountain vineyard of the Oakville AVA, 1,000 feet above the valley floor on the red volcanic soils Oakville is known for. Plantings have grown slowly to 68 acres, mostly Bordeaux varieties, for five wines and about 750 cases a year.
Most of the ranch is still wild, with native meadows, oak woodland and winding streams, and solar power covers most of its needs. Around the historic buildings are big gardens, a citrus grove and a 1937 Lord & Burnham conservatory. Farming here leans on erosion control, water-saving rootstocks and habitat for raptors and beneficial insects.
This is one of the most fun visits in the valley. An ATV carries you through the mountaintop vineyards, where hawks circle overhead and wildlife sometimes shows itself, to an overlook above the valley, and the tour ends with an alfresco tasting of current releases by the estate pool. It takes about an hour and a half, and guests talk about the ride all afternoon.
$100 per person for the visit: an ATV ride through the mountaintop vineyards, a stop at a valley overlook and an alfresco tasting of current releases by the pool, about 1.5 hours.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
