About the Winery
Nid Tissé is the label of owner and winemaker Marie-Laure Ammons, who grew up in the rural Limousin region of France. She studied at the viticulture schools of Libourne and Beaune-Dijon, interned in Bordeaux, Burgundy and the south of France, then came to California, working early on at Stonestreet and Hartford Court before 18 vintages with Philippe Melka's consulting firm, Atelier Melka.
She works with grower families and storied sites: Hyde Vineyard in Los Carneros, founded by Larry Hyde in 1979; Bacigalupi in the Russian River Valley, beside the block behind the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that won the 1976 Paris tasting; and Radian and Bentrock in the Sta. Rita Hills. Fermentations are native, in barrel. James Suckling gave the 2023 Hyde Chardonnay 99 points, and Wine Spectator's James Molesworth called these need-to-know Pinot Noirs.
The wines are sold on the winery's website, and a release list announces each new offering. Nid Tissé publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below goes to Carneros and south Napa wineries that do.

About 8 minutes away. A family farm winery in Carneros known for age-worthy, unfiltered Cabernet Franc, where the Current Release tasting of five wines is personal and unhurried. The fee is confirmed when we book; we allow about an hour. By appointment, Monday to Saturday.

About 12 minutes away. A family micro-winery in south Napa where winemaker Elise Nerlove pours her own Pinot Noir from barrel to bottle. The Barrel to Bottle tasting is $40, credited with a two-bottle purchase; we allow about an hour. By appointment daily; the last appointment is at 3:30 p.m.
