About the Winery

Renee and Dustin Mowe spent decades around Napa Valley's best-known winemakers; Dustin has led a company supplying high-quality corks to cult producers for more than twenty years. In 2020 they bought a home and vineyard on the Silverado Trail north of St. Helena, then learned its organically farmed fruit had been sold to Spottswoode, a winery they had long admired. They founded MOWE Napa Valley in 2022, under the motto "timing is everything."

The estate vineyard sits at the base of Glass Mountain on the east side of the Silverado Trail, in the St. Helena AVA. David Abreu planted it in 1990 entirely to Spottswoode clone Cabernet Sauvignon, on rocky Cortina loam studded with obsidian, and it is farmed organically and by hand. Winemaker Matthew Sands, who worked at Screaming Eagle and Bryant before Lithology, makes the Cabernet, plus a Sauvignon Blanc from Coombsville. In 2026 the family added AIDA, a historic St. Helena site first planted in 1911.

MOWE is not open to the public, but the Mowes host private tastings by appointment, arranged by email or phone. Wines are released by allocation to mailing list members. It is a personal visit with a young family winery, so we make the request for you and plan the rest of the day around the time they confirm.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. MOWE does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the appointment is made.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Meadowood or Harvest Inn. MOWE sets appointment times when it confirms the request, so the start time may move.

10:00 · Pickup at Meadowood or Harvest Inn

Meadowood, the resort at the foot of Howell Mountain, is about 8 minutes from the estate, and Harvest Inn, a vineyard-side resort at the south end of St. Helena, is about 12 minutes away. If MOWE offers a different time, we build the day around it. The day below runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · MOWE Napa Valley

A private tasting at the estate, by appointment. MOWE does not publish a length of visit or fee, so we allow about an hour and confirm the details when the appointment is set.

11:40 · 13th Vineyard

About 25 minutes away. An Angwin estate on White Cottage Road where the 13th Vineyard Tasting Experience begins with a tour of the 1886 stone winery, then pours five wines side by side. $75; we allow about 75 minutes. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by prepaid reservation.

1:20 · Lunch at The Charter Oak

About 25 minutes away. Lunch at The Charter Oak at the south end of St. Helena, Christopher and Martina Kostow's family-style New American restaurant, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:50 · Sphaerics

About 20 minutes away. A small Calistoga winery where the visit begins in the cellar with a barrel preview of the new vintage and ends with a seated flight of recent releases. $75, about 90 minutes, waived with a wine purchase. By appointment.

4:20 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:35 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.

About $150 per person in tasting fees for 13th Vineyard and Sphaerics, plus MOWE's fee, which is confirmed when the appointment is made. Fees are paid directly to each winery.

MOWE confirms its appointment time when it accepts the request. 13th Vineyard is open Wednesday to Sunday, so plan this day for one of those days. The day runs about six and a half hours, back around 4:35 p.m.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
