Giacomo Migliavacca, born in Pavia, Italy, in 1833, moved his family to Napa in 1866 and started making wine behind his grocery store on Brown Street. The Migliavacca Wine Company grew into one of California's largest producers, and its red wine won a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition. The company closed in 1919 with Prohibition.
In 2016 Katie Migliavacca, Giacomo's great-great-granddaughter and namesake, revived the company with her business partner and winemaker, Vincent Traverso. Vin was for years the right hand of winemaker Kirk Venge and serves on the board of Napa County Landmarks. The current wines include a Napa Valley Sangiovese, Vermentino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, plus a new label, Miles of Cows, a literal translation of the family name.
Migliavacca calls itself a winery without walls: there is no traditional tasting room, so it does not receive visitors. The wines are sold online, and club members are invited to dinners in cities around the country and to virtual tastings. The day below takes you to three Napa Valley estates that do host, starting in Carneros.
Migliavacca does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Migliavacca does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Napa River Inn, a historic inn in the Napa Mill on the riverfront, and Andaz Napa, a boutique Hyatt hotel in downtown Napa, are each about 15 minutes from the first stop in Carneros. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. A family label pouring at its Tasting Salon at POST inside Carneros Resort, where the grounds have fireplaces and bocce courts. A tasting of a selection of Faustini wines is $45 to $65, about 60 minutes, booked online or by phone; the winery does not publish its hours, so we confirm the time when we book.
About 20 minutes away. A boutique family winery whose Yountville Tasting Home sits on a private piazza, known for playful pairings such as five wines with artisanal potato chips. The Potato Chip Extravaganza is $65 for about 75 minutes. Open daily, with reservations from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; parties up to 6.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a Napa Valley favorite for more than 40 years, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. A family Cabernet house pouring in The Tasting Barn on Atlas Peak Road near Silverado Resort, where dogs and families are welcome. The Portfolio Experience of top selections is $65, about 90 minutes. Reservations recommended; open weekdays noon to 4 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Back by about 4:05 p.m., about six hours after pickup.
About $175 to $195 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Faustini does not publish its hours, so we confirm the time when we book and adjust the order if needed. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
