Mike Metzker founded Metzker Family Estates in 2014. A UC Davis graduate with a Ph.D. in genetics from Baylor College of Medicine, he lives in Houston, where he works as a genetics and genomics scientist and has founded two biotechnology companies; trips to Napa and Sonoma in his Bay Area years started his love of wine. His wife Jill is co-owner and marketing manager, and his son Cameron directs sales and hospitality in Napa.
Winemaker John Martin sources fruit from respected vineyards in both counties, from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast to Spring and Howell Mountains. The current 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet blends Howell Mountain and Sage Ridge fruit, and 2023 Pinot Noirs come from Terra de Promissio and Arnoud Vineyard. The winery lists 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck for its 2016 Spring Mountain Cabernet; black label wines are the reserve tier.
Wines are sold through the website and the Metzker Cellar Club, whose members can book complimentary tastings at the winery's private club in Napa. The visit page offers virtual tastings in place of in-person appointments, so Metzker does not receive the public. The day below pairs an Oakville library vertical with a private Howell Mountain Cabernet tasting in downtown Napa.
Metzker does not offer public tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Bardessono or Hotel Villagio.
Since Metzker does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Bardessono, a spa hotel in Yountville, and Hotel Villagio, a resort hotel in Yountville, are each about 5 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. Russell Bevan's bold Oakville Cabernet and coastal Pinot Noir, poured at HQ Winery, a working winery on Hoffman Lane just south of Yountville. Tastings are $75 to $200 depending on the experience; we plan about 75 minutes. By appointment, daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About 12 minutes away. A family's ten-acre Oakville Cabernet vineyard beside its own restaurant, Brix, where four library vintages of the estate Cabernet are poured in the gardens and vines. The Cabernet Vertical is $95, 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment only; closed Monday and Tuesday.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Bottega, an Italian restaurant on Washington Street in Yountville, serving from 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to Sunday. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. Toby and Dawn Forman's hand-farmed Howell Mountain Cabernet, poured at a private Estate Experience in downtown Napa. $200 per couple, fully waived with a six-bottle purchase of the Howell Mountain Cabernet; we allow about an hour. By request through the winery; the venue is confirmed when we book.
Back by about 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.
About $270 to $395 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Kelleher is closed Monday and Tuesday and Bottega serves lunch Tuesday to Sunday, so plan this day for Wednesday to Sunday. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
