About the Winery

Meteor Vineyard began in 1998, when internet pioneer Barry Schuler and his wife Tracy bought a knoll in the southeast corner of Napa Valley and asked viticulturist Mike Wolf what it could do. Wolf saw a site for Cabernet Sauvignon alone, and it was planted in 1999 to three clone and rootstock combinations. Winemakers Bill and Dawnine Dyer joined, and the first Meteor wine came from the 2005 vintage.

The knoll sits in the Coombsville AVA, with stony, rich volcanic soil, and Meteor made just two wines, both 100 percent estate Cabernet Sauvignon, among them the Perseid. Antonio Galloni praised their mix of rich texture and Coombsville energy, Kelli White called Meteor one of the finest and most serious new luxury Cabernets, and Robert Parker scored it 98+ points.

Meteor no longer sells its own wine. In a letter on the website, Barry Schuler and Dawnine Dyer say they have sold Meteor Vineyard and the estate to a family who will carry on its tradition, and direct sales are suspended during the transition. Meteor fruit now goes into wines from Arietta, Arrow&Branch, DuMol, Etude, Favia and Ziata. The estate did not host visitors, and the day below includes Favia and Arrow&Branch.
