About the Winery

Menagerie was founded by a group of friends who share a passion for elegant wine and for protecting the planet's wildlife. Philippe Melka, one of Napa Valley's best-known winemakers, is master winemaker, with Maayan Koschitzky as director of winemaking. Fourth-generation Napa winemaker Rob Mondavi is a partner and wine consultant, and Ricky and Lisa Novak are managing partners.

Each wine is named for a collective noun for animals: Shadow of Jaguars and Conspiracy of Lemurs, both 2021 Napa Valley reds, and Parade of Elephants from 2024, along with a collaboration called Yarrow x Menagerie. The winery says its wines draw on both Old and New World traditions, and a portion of proceeds goes to Tusk, the wildlife conservation charity.

The wines are sold by allocation: you join the member list on the website or write to the winery to buy. Menagerie publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three Napa estates that do, from a Coombsville home winery to the top of Mount Veeder.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Silverado Resort or Milliken Creek Inn.

10:00 · Pickup at Silverado Resort or Milliken Creek Inn

Since Menagerie does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Silverado Resort, a golf and spa resort at the foot of Atlas Peak, and Milliken Creek Inn, an inn on the Napa River just off the Silverado Trail, are each about 10 minutes from the first stop in Coombsville. The day runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Favia

About 10 minutes away. Viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson's home winery on a historic Coombsville property restored with native plants and orchards and farmed with organic and biodynamic methods. Any fee is confirmed when the appointment is set (allow about an hour). By appointment, Thursday to Monday.

11:35 · Hestan Vineyards

About 20 minutes away. The Cheng family's Yountville tasting salon, built of poured concrete, hand-forged steel and glass, where Hestan cookware is also on display. The seated Cabernet Tasting is $60; we allow about an hour. Open daily; reservations recommended for seated tastings.

12:50 · Lunch at Angèle

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:20 · Mt. Brave

About 25 minutes away. The Mt. Veeder Experience climbs to about 2,000 feet, starting at the Mt. Brave Overlook among redwoods, oaks and madrones, then moves to a private seated tasting of organically farmed mountain wines. $175, 90 minutes or more, for 2 to 6 guests; the meeting point is confirmed with the booking.

3:50 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:20 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.

About $235 per person for Hestan Vineyards and Mt. Brave, plus Favia's fee, which is confirmed when the appointment is set.

Favia hosts Thursday to Monday, so this plan suits those days, and Mt. Brave confirms its meeting point with the booking. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
