Childhood friends Adriel Lares, Hayes Drumwright and Adam Craun founded Memento Mori in 2010. The name is the old Latin reminder of mortality, and after the health scares, family tragedy and hard times they have shared, the founders read it as "Remember to Live." Winemaker Sam Kaplan turns each vineyard into a balanced, terroir-driven wine.
The flagship is a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon built from some of the valley's most sought-after vineyards: Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Beckstoffer Las Piedras in St. Helena, Weitz and Oakville Ranch in Oakville, and Vine Hill Ranch near Yountville. The newest source is the winery's own four-acre estate vineyard on volcanic soils in the Calistoga AVA.
Memento Mori curates private experiences, with priority given to its collectors. If you are not yet on the list, you sign up for the waiting list to request an appointment, and we make the request on your behalf. The winery publishes no fee or hours and decides whether it can host on your date, so we keep the rest of the day flexible.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

You must be 21 or older to request an appointment. Nothing is guaranteed: the winery decides whether it can host, when and in what format, and any fee is confirmed then.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Four Seasons Napa Valley or Indian Springs.
Four Seasons Napa Valley, on the Silverado Trail just south of town, and Indian Springs, the hot springs resort in the center of Calistoga, are both a short drive from the Memento Mori estate. The day below runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A private experience, if the winery agrees to host on your date. We plan about an hour and a quarter; the time, format and any fee are set by Memento Mori.
About 15 minutes away. A Diamond Mountain estate that has made single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon since 1968; the Signature Tasting is a private seated tasting followed by a guided UTV tour of the estate. $250, about 90 minutes. By private appointment, with priority for mailing list members.
About 12 minutes away. North to Calistoga for lunch at Solbar, the restaurant at Solage in Calistoga, serving lunch Monday through Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A family estate of steep hillside terraces in a remote canyon above Calistoga, where the Private Estate Tasting starts with an ATV ride through the vineyard. $100, about 75 minutes (waived with three bottles of red wine per person). By appointment.
Back by about 4:20 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $350 per person in tasting fees for Diamond Creek and Jericho Canyon, paid directly to each winery, plus any fee Memento Mori sets if it hosts you.
Solbar serves lunch Monday to Saturday; on a Sunday we book another sit-down restaurant in Calistoga. Memento Mori sets its appointment time, and we adjust the day around it.
