Ray and Theresa Joske bought their Coombsville property in 2003 and made their first Lunar Ridge wine from the 2004 vintage. The Syrah vines had been planted in 2001, before they arrived. The name came to Ray on a summer night as he watched the moon rise over the ridge, and the couple's two daughters designed the label.
Lunar Ridge is a single wine from a single small vineyard: a limited-production Syrah from the cool, windswept Coombsville AVA, where volcanic soils and lingering marine air shape the fruit. Winemaker Bruce Devlin has made it for more than a decade, and production is usually about 150 cases, from a vineyard of roughly an acre.
The family sells the wine through its website and mailing list, and it turns up on Napa restaurant and shop lists, including Cole's Chop House, Cordeiro's Steakhouse, Ristorante Allegria, Oakville Grocery and Market in St. Helena. The vineyard is private and does not host tastings. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do welcome guests.
Lunar Ridge does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
