About the Winery

Alice and David Alkosser bought their first vineyard property in the Coombsville hills in 2009, and for the 2010 harvest they persuaded winemaker Rudy Zuidema to work with the fruit. In 2016 they bought the historic Rapp Quarter Horse Ranch, with a winery and tasting room, and later reunited the original 83-acre ranch.

The estate now includes a 16,000-square-foot wine cave and four lines of wine, among them Shadybrook Estate, from the original Coombsville property, and Rapp Ranch, named for the cutting horse ranch. The ranch still has an equestrian center, and guided horseback rides through the Cabernet vineyard can be paired with a tasting. The small Cave Series wines are made in lots of just 25 to 100 cases each.

Most guests sit on the Grand Terrace, with views over the vineyards, gardens and Coombsville hills, and taste a flight of Shadybrook Estate and Rapp Ranch wines with a seasonal cheese and charcuterie board. Private cabanas at the Overlook and a Cave Series tasting with food by Chef Ken Frank of La Toque are also offered.

Tasting Fees

$95 for Wine Tasting on the Grand Terrace with a cheese and charcuterie board, 90 minutes. $150 for the Overlook Experience in a private cabana, 90 minutes. $250 for the Cave Series Experience, 2 hours. Horseback ride and tasting packages run $250 to $405.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
