The Llamas family were ranchers in Jalisco, Mexico, before coming north to work the fields, orchards and vineyards, and after more than 40 years of farming Napa Valley vines they founded Llamas Family Wines in 2009. Oscar Llamas, who has run Valley Auto Body in Napa for more than 35 years, and his wife Lola co-founded the label with their nephew Alex.
Alex's father and uncles planted and manage the first acres of what became the Stagecoach Vineyard, and the family uses only grapes from vineyards it farms. Alex worked at The French Laundry and Per Se before turning to winemaking. The family makes 300 to 500 cases a year, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Stagecoach Syrah and a Sauvignon Blanc.
The wines are sold online and poured at Napa restaurants such as Bistro Don Giovanni and Celadon. There is no tasting room, so the winery does not receive visitors; instead the family hosts wine-tasting events, from casual Sunday afternoons with small bites to dinners, and can bring a tasting to your rental home while you are in Napa Valley.
Llamas Family Wines does not offer tastings at a winery. In-home tasting events are priced by the family when arranged.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
