About the Winery
Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, who founded Duckhorn Vineyards in 1976, started Paraduxx in 1994 as a Napa Valley winery devoted to red blends. The debut vintage blended Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot and Petite Sirah, an unusual mix at the time. In 1998 the company bought Stout Vineyard on Howell Mountain to give the blends a steady source of mountain fruit.
The Paraduxx winery and Vineyard House on the Silverado Trail were finished in 2005, surrounded by Rector Creek Vineyard. The centerpiece is a 10-sided fermentation building inspired by the area's traditional round barns. Today the property is home to The Duckhorn Collection, where Paraduxx shares the room with Duckhorn Vineyards, Goldeneye, Calera and Decoy, and Paraduxx blends are still made.
Visits are seated and by appointment. This year's tastings center on Duckhorn Vineyards' 50th anniversary: a five-wine flight, the Legacy Flight with seasonal bites and the family-style Gather & Graze food pairing, so ask when booking if you want Paraduxx poured. Through October 11, groups can also book bottle service and cornhole under the property's old oak tree.
Tasting Fees
$50 for the Duckhorn Vineyards Flight of five current releases or the Terroir and Tradition Pinot Noir tasting, each 60 to 75 minutes. $100 for the Legacy Flight with seasonal bites, 90 minutes, and $150 for Gather & Graze, Thursday to Sunday, 90 to 120 minutes (both plus 20% gratuity).

About 12 minutes away. A Rutherford estate around an 1890s house once called the finest in Rutherford, with a wraparound porch, a lavender garden and a bocce court over the Star Vineyard. The Rutherford Estate tasting of two whites and two reds is $75, 60 to 90 minutes. By reservation, Tuesday to Sunday.

About 8 minutes away. Lunch high on Rutherford Hill with the whole valley below. The Bar serves all day from 11:30 a.m., and The Restaurant on the terrace offers a two- or three-course prix fixe lunch. Prefer a picnic? About 15 minutes away. The tasting salon of a family estate on Washington Street in Yountville, with Hestan and Ruffoni cookware on display beside the wines. The seated Seasonal Tasting of five current releases is $50 and the Cabernet Tasting $60; we allow about an hour. Open daily; reservations recommended.
