About the Winery

Ed and Kim Labry fell for Napa Valley on getaways from the South and in 2016 bought a three-acre vineyard in Rutherford; their first vintage was three barrels of estate Cabernet. Ed spent more than three decades in the payments industry, and the family now lives on the property, where his "southern cheese plate" of Cheeto puffs and smoked bologna has become a favorite with friends of the winery.

The estate is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon on Bale clay loam. Its history under vine goes back more than a century; David Abreu farmed it until 1995, and its fruit later went to Pine Ridge, Opus One, Rombauer and Vineyard 29. Winemaker Keith Emerson, president and winemaker of Vineyard 29, makes the estate Cabernet in the Rutherford AVA, plus a Sauvignon Blanc and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and rosé.

Labry wines are released twice a year, in spring and fall, through the No Rules club and mailing list. Club members get first access, a reserve Cabernet made only in strong vintages, members-only events and private barrel tastings at the winery. There is no public tasting program, so the estate does not host public visits. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.

Tasting Fees
