About the Winery
Dr. Tom Kenefick, a physician, first visited Napa Valley in 1970 and in 1978 bought a 250-acre ranch tucked into the foothills on Pickett Road outside Calistoga. He took viticulture classes at night to learn the craft, and commercial winemaking began in 2002. Since his death in 2021, his children, Chris and Caitlin Kenefick, have led the ranch.
The wines are estate grown in the Calistoga AVA and made by hand with native yeasts and French oak, aiming for what the family calls perfect equilibrium: approachable young, with the structure to cellar for ten to twenty years. The ranch is Fish Friendly Ranching certified, and the list includes library vintages, new releases and a wine of the month.
Guests taste in town rather than at the ranch. The Kenefick tasting room is at 1458 Lincoln Avenue, at the Calistoga Depot, open Friday to Monday from noon. Walk-ins are welcome and weekends may need a reservation, so it fits neatly after lunch, with two estates outside town before and after.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Four Seasons Napa Valley or Mount View Hotel. Kenefick's tasting room opens at noon, so it comes after lunch.

Four Seasons Napa Valley, on the Silverado Trail just outside Calistoga, and Mount View Hotel on Lincoln Avenue are each about 8 to 10 minutes from Davis Estates. Because Kenefick's room opens at noon, we start at Davis Estates and taste Kenefick after lunch. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

About 10 minutes away. A Howard Backen designed winery on the Silverado Trail with 11,000 square feet of caves and wide views over the north valley. The Estate Wine & Food Pairing is $100, a seated flight of current releases at a private table, 60 minutes, for up to 6 guests. Reservations are required; 21 and over.
