Calistoga · Napa Valley
Howell Mountain Cabernet made by Heidi Barrett, poured by the Lamborn family themselves at their Calistoga winery, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

The Lamborn family has farmed on Howell Mountain since 1969, and four generations have now been part of the winery. Their small organic vineyard sits at 2,200 feet in Aiken loam volcanic soil, and the family says its farming decisions are "based solely on quality and nothing else." They credit the Wappo people's care for the land as the model for how they farm.
Heidi Barrett has made Lamborn's wines since 1997. The winery describes her as one of the most celebrated winemakers in the world, and her résumé includes Screaming Eagle. The focus is Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, from mountain fruit the family has grown for more than five decades. It is a small, family-run label.
Tastings are not on the mountain. The family hosts them at its custom crush winery in Calistoga, and Mike or Brian Lamborn pours current releases and talks through the history of the wines, how they are made and the vineyard behind them. Library wines can be added on request. It is a small, personal visit with the people who grow the wine.
$75 per person for a hosted tasting of current releases, applied toward a purchase of six or more bottles. Library wines by request for an additional fee.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
