Michelle Kazumi Sakazaki's small label, which says it was the first in the United States to plant, harvest and bottle Japan's Koshu grape, grown in south Napa. Kazumi does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.

Michelle Kazumi Sakazaki was born in California, raised in Tokyo and worked as a fashion designer in Milan and New York before turning to wine; she holds the WSET Diploma and an MBA. In 2015 friends offered her half a ton of Sauvignon Blanc from their Rutherford vineyard, and Kazumi Wines was born, with a watercolor label she painted herself.
An Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon followed in 2016, and in 2021 Kazumi says it became the first brand in the United States to plant, harvest and bottle Koshu, an ancient Japanese white grape. The Koshu grows at Bayview Vineyards in south Napa and the Karabian Vineyard in Oak Knoll, in blocks planted in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Kale Anderson has made the wines since 2016.
Kazumi is sold through its website and a national distributor, and poured at restaurants in California, New York and Japan, including Michi and The Q in Napa. The label publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates in south Napa that do.
Kazumi Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Kazumi Wines does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Carneros Resort and Spa, a cottage resort among the Carneros vineyards, and Stanly Ranch, an Auberge resort on a Carneros ranch, are each about 5 minutes from the first stop. The day fits about five and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. A French-style château on a Carneros hilltop and one of the best-known sparkling wine houses in the valley, with a terrace that looks out over the rolling vineyards. The Daily Tasting Experience, a flight of four sparkling wines, starts at $45 for about an hour. By appointment daily from 10 a.m.; everyone must be 21 or older.
About 20 minutes away. A Coombsville hillside estate whose winery is built underground between the vines and an oak grove. A private visit by advance inquiry, one party at a time; we plan about an hour, and any fee is confirmed by the estate.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A young family winery in Napa's Crusher District, where each party gets its own private tasting area. The Private Tasting is $65, waived with a purchase of three bottles; we plan about an hour. By reservation request, seven days a week.
Back by about 3:25 p.m., about five and a half hours after pickup.
About $110 per person for Domaine Carneros and Kubani, plus Covert Estate's fee, which is confirmed when the visit is accepted.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.
