Kale Anderson and his wife Ranko founded Kale Wines in 2008. Kale's line is "I make wine with my senses, and I use science to gauge risk," and the winery pairs modern tools, such as night harvesting and a Le Trieur sorting table, with old techniques.
The wines are small-production and Rhône-inspired, with Syrah and white blends at the center, from well-known Northern California sites including Alder Springs, Ritchie, Hyde, McGah, Stagecoach and Kick Ranch. Kale calls them small-production, handcrafted wines, each made to bring out its vineyard's most delicious characteristics.
You taste Kale at The Wine Thief on First Street, a vintner-owned collective of small producers whose wines are rarely poured anywhere else. Walk-ins are welcome, and Kale's tastings come with artisanal cheeses, Marcona almonds, lavender honeycomb and crostini. Kale also offers private tastings by inquiry.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
