About the Winery

JaM is John and Michele Truchard, the J and the M, second-generation Napa Valley vintners. John started in vineyard management in 1995, and in 2008 the couple launched JaM Cabernet, a Napa Valley wine priced under $20. Butter Chardonnay followed in 2010 with 1,000 cases, and the winery now calls it the top-selling Chardonnay in the country in the $13-and-up category.

In 2016 the Truchards opened the JaM Cellars Wine & Music Studio on First Street, reimagining the tasting room as a recording studio lounge with live JaMSessions and late-night pours. The same year JaM became a presenting sponsor of BottleRock Napa Valley, and the JaM Cellars Stage has hosted headliners ever since. Music is as much a part of a visit as the wine.

Here you taste the Napa Valley wines sold only at the studio, from JaM Napa Valley Brut and Butter Chardonnay to the JaMPlatinum Cabernet and Pinot Noir, in one of four tasting options. Small bites run from cheese and charcuterie to caviar, and the patio Butter Lounge is a pop-up for Butter cocktails. It is a lively, easygoing start to a day.

Tasting Fees

Four tasting options of the Napa Valley exclusive wines, starting at $45. Small bites from $15 to $35. The winery does not publish durations; we plan about an hour.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa.

10:00 · Pickup at Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa

Andaz Napa, a boutique Hyatt hotel in downtown Napa, is about 5 minutes from the studio, and Archer Hotel Napa, a downtown Napa hotel with a rooftop bar, about 5 minutes away. JaM opens at 10 a.m., so the first tasting starts right away. The day below fits well within six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:10 · JaM Cellars

A tasting of the Napa Valley exclusive wines, from $45, about an hour.

11:30 · Domaine Carneros

About 15 minutes away. A French-style château on a Carneros hilltop and one of the best-known sparkling wine houses in the valley, with a terrace that looks out over the rolling vineyards. The Daily Tasting Experience, a flight of four sparkling wines, starts at $45 for about an hour. By appointment daily from 10 a.m.; everyone must be 21 or older.

12:50 · Lunch at Angèle

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:15 · Favia

About 10 minutes away. Viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson's home winery on a historic Coombsville property restored with native plants and orchards and farmed with organic and biodynamic methods. Any fee is confirmed when the appointment is set (allow about an hour). By appointment, Thursday to Monday.

3:15 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:30 p.m., about five and a half hours after pickup.

About $90 per person for JaM Cellars and Domaine Carneros, plus Favia's fee, which is confirmed when the appointment is set.

Favia hosts by appointment Thursday to Monday, so this plan suits those days; on other days we suggest another Coombsville estate. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
