About the Winery

Larry Hyde planted Hyde Vineyards in 1979 in the Carneros region at the southern end of Napa Valley. For years the vineyard sold its fruit to well-known producers in Napa and Sonoma, and the Hyde name became familiar on other wineries' labels. In 2009 Larry started making wine under the family's own name, and today the estate pours those wines at its winery on Los Carneros Avenue.

This is cool, windy country in the Los Carneros AVA, close to San Pablo Bay, and the Hyde wines lean on that: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the flagships, with small lots of Merlot, Syrah and Viognier. The estate is certified Napa Green for both land and winery and is Fish Friendly Farming certified. It is also the Hyde behind HdV, the family's separate partnership with Burgundy's de Villaine family.

Guests choose where to sit: a private room, the casual tasting bar or the small terrace looking over the vines. The tasting runs about 75 minutes for up to six guests, so it suits a couple or a small group who want an unhurried start. We like it as a first stop because Carneros is quiet in the morning and the terrace is at its best then.

Tasting Fees

$75 per person for the estate tasting, about 75 minutes, in a private room, at the tasting bar or on the vineyard terrace.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
