Honig Vineyard & Winery

About the Winery

Louis Honig, a San Francisco advertising man, bought a 68-acre ranch in Rutherford in 1964 and sold its Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet grapes to neighbors. He died before he could make wine, so in 1980 his family made a few hundred cases of Sauvignon Blanc in the old tractor barn. In 1984 his grandson Michael, then 22, took over, and the Honig family still runs the winery.

Honig is known for Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rutherford AVA, made by an all-female winemaking team. Sustainability is the house story: the winery runs on solar panels it first switched on in 2006 and doubled in 2015, it is certified sustainable and Fish Friendly, and Michael Honig once sat on the board of a program that trained golden retrievers to sniff out vine mealybugs.

This is a relaxed, friendly stop off the highway on Rutherford Road. The Terrace Tasting is seated outdoors with views of the vineyard and the mountains. Guests who want more book the Eco-Tour, which heads into the vines on a four-passenger cart to see the farming and the Napa River restoration work before finishing on the terrace. The Reserve Room pairs single-vineyard Cabernets with cheese and charcuterie.

Tasting Fees

$30 for the Fly By Flight, three wines in 30 minutes. $40 for the seated Terrace Tasting (add a single-vineyard Cabernet pour for $20). $65 for the Eco-Tour and Tasting by vineyard cart. $95 for the Group Garden Tasting for 9 to 20 guests. $115 for the Reserve Room AVA Experience, single-vineyard Cabernets with cheese and charcuterie.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
