Hillwalker is a boutique vineyard at 1,000 feet on Mount Veeder, owned by proprietor Kevin Morrison. Wine Spectator profiled it under the headline "A Rebirth at Hillwalker Vineyards," describing how Morrison, with a low-key, hands-on approach, resurrected a Mount Veeder vineyard to produce beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon. Production is small, and the estate wine is Cabernet blended with a little Merlot.
The five acres are farmed organically and dry-farmed, with whey sprays and teas of nettle and comfrey instead of conventional inputs, and the wines age largely in concrete. Early fog drifts in from the Pacific and retreats as the sun comes up. Critics have taken notice: JamesSuckling.com gave the 2023 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 98 points, and The Wine Independent rated the 2021 98+.
There is no tasting room. Hillwalker invites questions about "an upcoming visit" through its contact form or by email to Kevin Morrison, so visits are by private request, and we arrange it on your behalf. Expect a small, personal visit on a working mountain vineyard, with the fog-and-sun story of Mount Veeder right in front of you.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
