Mount Veeder · Napa Valley
A family winery on the slopes of Mount Veeder, run by winemaker Jeff Fontanella and his wife Karen, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Jeff and Karen Fontanella married in 2003, and in November 2005 they bought a 26-acre property on Partrick Road on Mount Veeder. Jeff studied viticulture and enology at UC Davis and worked his first harvest at Opus One in 1998, then at ZD and Saddleback, before the couple opened their own winery in 2008. Jeff makes the wines and Karen runs the business.
The estate sits in the Mount Veeder AVA, about 10 minutes from downtown Napa up a winding, oak-lined road. In 2016 the family bought the neighboring 55 acres, with a hillside cave, and planted more estate Cabernet Sauvignon in 2017 and 2023. The family came through a 6.0 earthquake and the Partrick fire, and 2026 marks the winery's 20th harvest.
Visits are small and personal. Guests sit on the patio above the estate vineyards, taste four current releases with a cheese plate, and walk into the barrel room for a sample of an upcoming wine. The Reserve Tour and Tasting focuses on the Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Per Sempre, a multi-vintage, solera-style Cabernet.
$45 for Golden Mornings, the Fontanella Journey Tasting at a weekday rate (Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for a limited time), 75 minutes. $65 for the Fontanella Journey Tasting of four current releases, a barrel sample and a cheese plate, 75 minutes. $95 for the Reserve Tour and Tasting, 75 minutes. Prices are per guest, plus tax.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
